Gift Ideas For Christmas

Times are changing and so is the world around us. Gifting is often considered an extremely costly exercise this time of the year, with many finding it increasingly difficult to buy presents for everyone.
Children do not buy into “it’s the thought that counts” but if you are really, really clever your Christmas or any other time of the year need not sink you financially.

Here are a couple of clever ideas for the whole family to enjoy this (and every) festive season:
•    Every January allocate a jar or piggy bank and throughout the course of the year save all your R5.00 coins; you will be amazed at how much you can save. This can easily pay for your turkey and ham.
•    If you are a good baker or if you are able to make something as simple as wonderful jams, cookies, cakes or ginger beer, then this is the perfect time to get stuck in with the whole family in tow. The stores sell pretty boxes, so box or bottle these and add a pretty bow for that perfect gift.
•    If you have a HUGE family set a limit to what everyone has to spend – say R50.00 and let everyone chuck in and put their gift in a basket for everyone to draw a present. This way it is all fair and square.
•    If you love to knit then knitting a scarf for that lucky fish who is off on a skiing holiday.
•    Then there is the gift of kindness; visit someone in hospital or an old person who is lonely; this way you get to do a good deed and the gift of love is free!
•    Make a collage or a special scrap book for your Mom or Dad this Christmas; the memories will bring tears to the eye.
•    If you are an avid gardener and grow fantastic veggies; now is the time to pop all into a pretty basket, tie a lovely bow around the handle, pop a couple of seeds for the recipient to grow their own if this is what tickles them pink.

Christmas need not break the piggy-bank. A dollop of kindness and oodles of imagination can make your pennies stretch really far.
